A LITTLE BIT OF EASTERN CHARM COMES TO THE WEST
OAKLEY, Utah- A historical, Rhode Island, diner has been transplanted to small town, Oakley, Utah by Keith Walker, an Oakley resident, in hopes to bring a little charm to his community.
Walker has owned his own business for much of his life and recently sold it. He began getting bored and needed a new project. He happened to be traveling through, Rhode Island, one day and came upon the diner. It had a for sale sign on it and was a little bit worn. Walker saw the potential and immediately made plans to purchase the diner.
Walker said, “ The first thing I thought of when I saw it was, this will look great in Oakley. The town needed something like this.” Plans were soon in the works and three days later he found out that the diner was his. The diner was brought to Utah on a semi and it literally took months to get here. As soon as it did, work was underway to do a complete restoration of the diner.
There has been much time and effort put in by Walker himself and countless others to get the diner back to its original glory and they are still working on the project. The diner is scheduled to open in May 2008.
The diner will serve country favorites like mashed potatoes, gravy and meatloaf. There are also a few special recipes that will be served that came from the original diner and have yet to be revealed.
“We keep making progress everyday and soon it will be ready. I am so anxious to see how people react to this and hope it offers a little something new to this little community,” Walker said.
